Indianapolis is a city full of surprises and my recent trip there proved just that. It was a short visit but one packed with interesting experiences, great food, and a touch of nostalgia.

Upon arrival at the Houston airport I had just enough time to check out United’s Go Fly lounge in Terminal B. The concept impressed me—an innovative approach for travelers with short layovers who don’t have time for a full lounge experience. The lounge provided convenient access to snacks and drinks, making it an ideal stop before heading to my final destination.

That evening, I had dinner at The Library, a charming spot known for its cozy atmosphere and excellent food. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day of travel and prepare for the busy schedule ahead.

The following morning, we set out for Connersville to visit a distributor. The drive through Indiana’s countryside was peaceful, and the meeting was productive. Afterward, we stopped for lunch at No. 9 Grill in Cambridge, a great little spot with fantastic food that made for a memorable meal.

Our next stop was the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, a pilgrimage for any basketball fan. The timing of our visit made it even more poignant—on the very day that Gene Hackman passed away. Standing in the gym where Hoosiers was filmed, I couldn’t help but reflect on the impact of the movie and Hackman’s legendary performance as Coach Norman Dale. It was a special moment to be there on such a significant day.

Charlie and I decided to change our flight and head back to Houston later that afternoon. While at the airport, I took some time to explore and stumbled upon some unique pieces of history—an Indy sports car on display, a letter from Abraham Lincoln, a note from Johnny Cash, and a guitar from ZZ Top. It was an unexpected but fitting way to wrap up the trip.

Though brief, the visit to Indianapolis was well worth it. From great food and productive meetings to meaningful moments and unexpected finds, it was a trip that left a lasting impression.

A Whirlwind Business Trip to Casper, Wyoming

Business travel often comes with its fair share of excitement, exhaustion, and unexpected adventures. My recent trip to Casper, Wyoming, to meet with Engineered Equipment Inc. was no exception. From airport lounges to great food and a mad dash through Denver, this trip had it all.

The journey began with stops at the United Lounges in Houston and Denver—always a good way to get some work done and grab a quick refreshment before the next leg of the trip. Upon arriving in Casper, I made my way to Frank’s for a well-earned steak dinner. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. There’s something about a perfectly cooked steak after a long day of travel that makes all the difference.

After dinner, I decided to unwind with a game of poker, enjoying the local scene before calling it a night. The next morning, breakfast at the Hilton came with an unexpected highlight—the server’s homemade green salsa. It had just the right kick and was a great way to start the day.

Before heading to my meeting, I stopped by the Blue Ribbon for a solid cup of coffee. There’s nothing quite like a good local coffee shop to set the tone for a productive day. Lunch was at HQ Southern BBQ, where the flavors were as bold as the conversation. A great spot for a final meal before hitting the road.

Then came the sprint. My return trip started with a mad dash to the Casper airport, only to find myself in an all-out 25-minute run through the Denver airport to catch my connecting flight to Houston. Just what you need after a full day of meetings and travel.

I’ll be arriving back home at midnight, finally crawling into my bed around 1:30 AM. The best part? I get to wake up in my own home on Friday instead of spending another full day traveling. It’s always good to get out and meet with partners, but nothing beats coming home after a trip like this.

Beachside Bliss at Johnson Beach

No trip to Pensacola is complete without time by the water, and Johnson Beach did not disappoint. Located on Perdido Key, this pristine stretch of sand offered calm waves, soft white sand, and a perfect spot to unwind. Whether wading in the warm Gulf waters or simply enjoying the ocean breeze, it was the ideal way to kick off our trip.

Exploring History at Fort Barrancas

Pensacola is rich in history, and Fort Barrancas provided a fascinating look into the area’s military past. Built on the bluffs overlooking Pensacola Bay, this 19th-century fort once guarded the coastline. Walking through the old brick tunnels and standing atop the fort’s walls, we could almost hear the echoes of the past. The views alone were worth the visit, offering a stunning panorama of the bay.

A Feast of Flavors: Rodízio Dining

After a day of sun and exploration, it was time for a well-earned meal. We opted for a rodízio experience—a Brazilian-style steakhouse where servers bring an endless variety of grilled meats straight to the table. Every cut was perfectly seasoned and cooked, from juicy picanha to tender lamb chops. Paired with a buffet of fresh salads, cheeses, and traditional Brazilian sides, it was a meal to remember.

Final Thoughts: Pensacola’s Hidden Gems

Pensacola may be known for its beaches, but it has so much more to offer. Between the stunning shoreline, rich history, and incredible dining, this trip left us wanting more. Whether you’re a history buff, a beach lover, or a foodie, Pensacola is a destination that delivers.

My recent trip to Thailand and Malaysia was an incredible mix of vibrant cities, cultural experiences, and breathtaking sights. The adventure began with a layover in Tokyo, offering a brief but exciting glimpse of Japan before heading to the heart of Southeast Asia.

Thailand: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Landing in Bangkok, the city’s energy was immediately captivating. Bustling streets, golden temples, and the aroma of street food set the stage for an unforgettable experience.

Rayong & Pattaya: Coastal Charm

From Bangkok, I made my way to Rayong, a quieter coastal region known for its seafood and relaxed atmosphere. The next stop was Pattaya City, where the lively beach scene and bustling nightlife provided a stark contrast. One of the highlights was visiting Nongnooch Pattaya Garden, a stunning botanical paradise featuring meticulously maintained landscapes, cultural performances, and even elephant shows.

Bangkok’s Shopping & Street Life

Back in Bangkok, a visit to MBK Center was a must. This massive shopping complex is a haven for bargain hunters, offering everything from clothing to electronics. After indulging in some retail therapy, it was time to bid farewell to Thailand and continue the journey to Malaysia.

Malaysia: A Fusion of Cultures

Arriving in Kuala Lumpur, the city’s skyline was instantly recognizable, dominated by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Seeing them up close, especially at night, was mesmerizing.

Batu Caves & Cultural Wonders

A visit to the Batu Caves offered a fascinating glimpse into Malaysia’s Hindu heritage. The towering golden statue of Lord Murugan and the steep climb up 272 colorful steps led to a breathtaking cave temple nestled within limestone cliffs.

Sambal Street Food & Shopping

One of the best parts of traveling is the food, and Malaysia did not disappoint. Sampling sambal street food—a spicy, flavorful staple of Malaysian cuisine—was an absolute must. From Nasi Lemak to char kway teow, every bite was packed with rich, aromatic spices. To round out the trip, I explored The Gardens Mall, a sleek and modern shopping destination that contrasted with the street markets and food stalls.

Reflections on an Unforgettable Journey

Thailand and Malaysia offered a perfect mix of cultural immersion, stunning landmarks, and incredible food. From the serene gardens of Pattaya to the towering skyscrapers of Kuala Lumpur, every stop along the way added a unique flavor to the adventure.

Would I go back? Absolutely! Next time, I might extend my stay in Tokyo and explore even more of these beautiful countries. Until then, I’ll be reminiscing about the sights, sounds, and flavors of Southeast Asia.

My recent trip to Bahrain and Dammam was an incredible mix of exploration, culture, and business. From visiting historic sites and indulging in delicious food to attending the Spiconx Conference and experiencing the modern side of Saudi Arabia, this journey was both enriching and unforgettable.

A Taste of Bahrain

I started my adventure in Bahrain, a country that perfectly blends tradition with modernity. The bustling markets, stunning waterfront, and warm hospitality made an immediate impression. Walking through the souks, I explored shops filled with traditional handicrafts, perfumes, and spices, immersing myself in the local culture.

The culinary experience in Bahrain was just as impressive. The flavors were rich and diverse, with influences from across the Middle East and beyond. It was the perfect introduction to the region’s incredible cuisine before heading across the border into Saudi Arabia.

Discovering Dammam’s Rich Culture and Seafront Views

Crossing into Dammam, I had the chance to explore the city’s mix of modern development and deep-rooted traditions. One of the highlights was visiting the Saudi Aramco Library, an incredible resource showcasing the company’s history, technological advancements, and contributions to the energy sector. The library’s vast collection and interactive exhibits offered a fascinating look into Saudi Arabia’s energy landscape.

A walk along the Dammam Seafront was the perfect way to take in the city’s scenic beauty. The coastline, with its tranquil waters and well-designed public spaces, provided a refreshing contrast to the bustling urban areas. Watching the sunset over the Arabian Gulf was a moment of pure serenity.

A Culinary Experience to Remember

One of the best parts of this trip was the food. Dammam is home to an array of amazing restaurants, but one that stood out was Damascus Restaurant. The flavors of their grilled meats, fresh bread, and mezze platters were simply unforgettable. Every bite was a celebration of Middle Eastern cuisine, and it was the perfect way to experience the region’s authentic flavors.

Spiconx Conference: Innovation & Networking

A major highlight of my visit was attending the Spiconx Conference, a gathering of industry professionals, innovators, and thought leaders. The conference provided valuable insights into pipeline technology, energy solutions, and industrial advancements. It was a great opportunity to connect with experts, exchange ideas, and discuss the future of the industry.

Shopping at the Mall of Dhahran

To round off the trip, I spent some time at the Mall of Dhahran, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest and most vibrant shopping destinations. From high-end international brands to local favorites, the mall offered a fantastic shopping experience. Whether it was exploring fashion, electronics, or traditional souvenirs, there was something for everyone.

This trip to Bahrain and Dammam was a perfect blend of culture, business, and leisure. I recently returned from an insightful and dynamic business trip to China, where I had the opportunity to visit six provinces: Beijing, Lanzhou, Zibo, Nanchang, and Hangzhou. While my primary focus was on business engagements, I also made time to explore the rich culture and history of Beijing, Zibo, and Shanghai—each offering a unique glimpse into China’s past, present, and future.

Beijing: A Perfect Balance of Business and History

My journey began in Beijing, a city that seamlessly blends political importance, business influence, and historical grandeur. Between meetings, I took moments to appreciate its iconic landmarks, from the Forbidden City to the Great Wall, which serve as powerful reminders of China’s long and storied history. The energy of Beijing is unmatched—its fast-paced business environment contrasted beautifully with serene pockets of traditional architecture and culture.

Lanzhou & Nanchang: Understanding Regional Markets

Moving westward to Lanzhou, I had valuable discussions about regional industry trends and market potential. Situated along the legendary Silk Road, Lanzhou’s strategic location makes it an important hub for commerce and logistics.

Further south, Nanchang offered a different perspective, highlighting the emerging business landscape in Jiangxi province. I had the chance to meet with key stakeholders and explore potential opportunities for collaboration.

Zibo: An Industrial Powerhouse

One of the most intriguing stops on my journey was Zibo, a city renowned for its industrial strength. It was fascinating to see firsthand how Zibo has evolved into a major player in manufacturing and innovation. While there, I also experienced the city’s unique barbecue culture, which has recently gained national attention—an unexpected but delicious bonus to my visit!

Known for its breathtaking West Lake and being home to some of China’s biggest tech companies, Hangzhou was another key stop on my itinerary. It’s a city where tradition and modernity coexist beautifully, making it a fascinating place to explore both in terms of business and culture.

No trip to China would be complete without a visit to Shanghai, the country’s financial capital. The city’s impressive skyline, high-energy business scene, and international influence make it an exciting place to discuss future growth opportunities.
